I am a retired Machining Engineer and am very familiar with carbide tools. When I got them out of the package I noticed substantial damage on the cutting edges. I purchased a set of these bits from another retailer. Grinding damage will reduce their life.I contacted CMT by Email and recieved a prompt but unhelpful reply. There were brown, blue and cracked shiny spots (Grinding Burn). Heavy burrs were present in the gullet of the bits as well. They tell me they saw burrs on bits in their system calling it "normal" and offered no solution.Since few woodworkers have machining backgrounds beware, there are much better quality tools out there. I replaced CMT with Freud, their bits are works of art.
The quality is at least as good as the Freud and other bits I have. I am new to woodworking and needed a set of plywood dado bits. I wanted a good set that I won't outgrow so I purchased these after finding them on Amazon. They come in a padded foam case for storage/transport. A good investment in my opinion.
nothing beats having the exact cut size for today's modern plywood dimensions. plywood is no longer made in actual widths so when you need a tight fitting dado or groove, these CMT bits are the best. great in a hand held router and in a router table.
I used the bit 3/4 once , and it was good ,time will tell tho.
Tired of sloppy fitting plywood shelving in dados. That's because 1/2" plywood isn't 1/2" but is 31/64". These are quality bits with a 1/2" shank that do the job they are meant for. The sizes are: 15/64" for 1/4", 31/64" for 1/2" and 23/32" for 3/4".
